Cowboys front up

March 28, 2018

LOCKINGTON’S Lee Kimber and Pine Grove’s Terry Evison have a nervous time ahead in the saddle as action heats up in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.

Evison and Kimber hold third and fourth places respectively in the overall cowboy standings, while Emerald cowboy and reigning champion Campbell Hodson rounds out the top five.

With four rodeos in Victoria and two in New South Wales on this long weekend, the locals have been working on their form before Easter.

The first of the Easter Rodeos this side of the Murray River will be held on Good Friday at Great Western Recreation Reserve, near Ararat, about three hours away by car.

There will also be an event at Omeo in Victoria on Easter Saturday, Buchan on Easter Sunday before a rodeo to finish on Easter Monday at Lang Lang Showgrounds.

The two Easter events in New South Wales are the Deniliquin Under the Stars Rodeo at Racecourse Road on Easter Saturday and the final event on Easter Sunday at Barooga Recreation Reserve.

With 10 events across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland at Easter, the battle will be on for the lead in APRA all around standings for the cowboys.

Currently, Yass cowboy Clay Bush has a narrow lead over Emerald (Queensland) rider Shane Kenny in the all around standings for cowboys.
