The first round of the Goulburn Murray Golf Association summer four-ball match play championship was held on Sunday.

Rochester travelled to Mooroopna to take on Shepparton golf club.

The club won two of their five matches, but lost the remaining three.

The team of Frank Severino and Steve Malley had a strong victory, as did the team of Steven Bubb and Darren White.

Peter Anderson and Peter Lawford lost 2/1, Leigh Hicks and Richard Feuk also fell in their contest 3/2.

Big hitting but way ward pair of Jake Wright and Brad Major found the going and the big trees not to their liking, anding the day early in the clubhouse.

Next week Rochester travel to Numurkah to play Rushworth with a 8am hit off.

Those interested should send their names and golf link numbers to Leigh Hicks.

It was great to see Peter Hyden have his first win over nine holes in the Wednesday event prior to Christmas.

Hyden’s modified golf buggy allows him to adjust his posture to tee up, hit from the fairways and putt on the scrape, mostly one handed as the other hand maintains balance and stability.

Organiser Richard Feuk played Santa for the day handing out various Christmas gifts.

Competition will restart in February depending on the weather. A reminder both nines are now open as all the fairways and rough have been mowed.
